Who We Are

ISA is an association of tax practitioners—both accountants and attorneys—whose practices concentrate on state and local taxes. Many are former “Big 4” accountants. Some have held leadership positions in the tax administrations of their respective states. All are now engaged in independent SALT practices focusing primarily on tax planning, tax compliance and tax controversy. ISA gives its members access to the talents and knowledge-base of similarly-situated tax professionals in other states so they can better serve their clients. ISA was founded on this spirit of knowledge-sharing and peer-support. While the members vary in practice size and specialty, one trait is common to each … the desire to consistently provide cutting-edge state and local tax services of the highest professional caliber and to associate with like-minded individuals and firms.

Admittedly, ISA has benefitted from changing times. State and Local Taxes were long-considered an afterthought. But the internet, an evolution toward an economy biased in favor of services and digital products, and improvements in communications and logistics, have brought novel multi-state tax issues to the forefront for both businesses and individuals. Now, more than ever before, tax planning and compliance cannot occur in a vacuum. ISA fills the need for a forum where professionals may interact to tackle the most vexing multi-jurisdictional tax problems and opportunities.
